“Will Roman Catholics in Peoria and New York City battle over the remains of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen?
“That’s a possibility, if Sheen becomes a saint – an effort spearheaded by the Peoria Diocese.
“Sheen, who died 30 years ago this month, is buried in a crypt under the altar at historic St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. However, if the El Paso native is canonized, Catholic custom would give the Peoria diocese a claim to exhume Sheen’s remains and reinter them here at St. Mary’s Cathedral.”
