EWTN will be broadcasting the award-winning film, Into Great Silence, Die Grosse Stille. The film spends a considerable amount of time documenting the daily lives of Carthusian monks at the Grande Chartreuse monastery located in the French Alps. The Carthusian order was founded in 1084 by St. Bruno of Cologne, and follows the monastic Rule of St. Benedict. Access to these monasteries is extremely limited since the order is one of enclosed monastics. Due to this situation, the film provides a rare glimpse into the lives of these pious men.
True to its title, this film does not have either a narrator or a score. The only sounds are those coming from the natural sorroundings of the monastery, and the monks going about their daily lives, which includes praying the Divine Office, marking the passage of time.

A wonderful flim! The silence is deafening, but enticing.
